hey all, my heaters on my van are not blowing hot air , they only blow cold air . i thought it was due to the egr cooler being gone but i have just had that chnaged and it is still the same!! anyone know what it could be, the van seems perfectly normal, no water inside from heater matrix, no over heating or anything

you’ll have to check theres actually water circulating through the matrix first. and check water level.(look inside bottle )
under bonnet you cant miss 2 pipes ghoing through to heater matrix. if there both hot then the problems inside, and not water circulation.

no the head hasnt gone, no blockages, and no air locks as the van would start overheating if there was air locks blockages in pipes etc etc, van is all okay, i will check the circulation pipes tommorw , i have done about 400 miles in it without a problem so wouldn’t of thought the circulation would of been an issue. it also smokes some times when on boost. the egr valve looks like a brand new one as well so isnt egr related. im thinking this could be to do with it as well

well the pipes are sized so that if the pump does fail, theres a certain amount of circulation by gravity.
flow goes to top of rad outlet at bottom.
all vehicles are like this.#
and you can of course have no water in an engine and it will not show that its overheating as theres no way the heat can get to temp sender.

water level is at maximum and has been for last few days since having the egr cooler sorted.

have you checked theres flow through heater yet takes about 2 seconds, not including openining the bonnet.

got the van running now, the bottom and top radiator pipe is stone cold. and the engine is at normal temparature , the pipe under the coolant bottle is hot so there is water going through the pipe coming out of the bottle and either side of the thermostat just not the top and bottom rad pipes, will the rad need flushing.

if the main stat was stuck open the engine would prob never get up to working temp, and blowers would be just warm.
sounds like stat and rad are fine, but not circulation.

Only with A/C.
What Mk, and has it got A/C? With A/C, temperature selection is controlled by stepper motor on blend door, and these can stop working, sticking on last position regardless of temperature selector knob.

whys it weird one, the stat and rad are working correctly,
if both top and bottom were same temp it would show water pump is working but stat fully open, its not that.
if it over heated and blowers work and rad is cold, it would show main stat stuck shut, its not that
if it didnt over heat, flow through rad was ok, dont have circulation of water through blowers, it means. stat is working ok and cooling is working by gravity through rad but water pump isnt working fully
