What is that click at the end of the gas pedal travel?

That ‘click’ on the end of the gas pedal is called the kickdown switch.
. and yes it has been discused many MANY times.

New Benz cars don’t have this feature — but Diamler has «shifted gears» so to speak, lots of old-school Benz touches are missing from newer cars.
The kickdown switch is also detailed in the owner’s manual.

On AT, it downshifts your gear automatically for times you want a sudden acceleration e.g. switching lanes/cutting off a car

The kickdown on my car sucks big time. I was racing a bmw 328 on the highway (friend) I did the kickdown the BMW took me. I said I wasn’t ready . So I put it in manual mode (tiptronic whatever people call it) then I was on a better gear. Then I took the BMW by 3-4 cars. (he stopped at 100 so I dont know how much more I would have had on him.
I think the 7G is a laggy transmission. It might have been the adaptations.
But now that I think about it once the kickdown does happen there is no catching it. It literally takes 2-3 seconds. It’s that bad.
But wait you have a manual? Then there is no need. Drop that bad boy into gear and that’s your kickdown.

That’s the button that tells the transmission to stop f-in thinking about it and downshift already! I’m really starting to dislike the auto transmission in these cars. The car only has 200hp, it doesn’t have time for the transmission to think about what to do when I want to pass someone. I really wish I could have found a manual, but I REALLY wish I could have founda C350.

Tam s tebou naprosto souhlasím.
I tried studying the acceleration habits of the throttle and i came to the conclusion that when i hit the gas 3/4 of the way down really fast (not kickdown), it actually shifts down faster and goes 1-2 gears down right away. The kickdown only went down a single gear, nothing more and the delay was long. (i have recorded videos on my phone and used timers to prove so.)
Also, when at a stand still, hitting the gas 1/2 way gets you off the line quicker than if you floor it. [according to Glyn, its part of the ECU to prevent you from slipping and is not associated with the ESP, just a FYI]
