I have a dead battery and instead of paying to get it done I’m thinking about changing myself.. Can anyone share any light which bolts need to be unhooked from the Battery Fuse control unit? I’ve never seen something like this on a car before usually just a + and — wire that pops on and off.

You need to loosen the one that pinches the clamp on the positive post of the battery.. If your unsure point to it and send a pic. Jason

Thanks for that, I figured it was just the one bolt that pinches the clamp just like any other car but just wanted to make sure

Yeah, when you loosen it, that whole box of fusible links will come with it and pull back out of your way..J

anything else to it?? Just loosen the bolt around the postiive terminal and fastener on the negative? Not too handy but figured may as well learn to do some basic stuff myself as for some reason I never cared to work on a car myself till I purchased a Maserati.
I removed the two bolts on the metal bar that holds the battery in place, now I’m just waiting to pick up a new battery tomorrow morning to complete the swap. Will replace with Interstate MT5-49/H8 AGM; 900 CCA.

When you get the battery in and connected turn the car on to position 2 with the key. That is no crank, but dash is lit up. Let sit one minute and then start until engine and let run until normal temp. shut off and hit buttons on key fob for lock/unlock and trunk release. J

Remember to disconnect negative first and connect it last.

does the power need maintaining via a piggyback battery during the change to avoid loosing some ECU programming?

mission accomplished! went pretty smoothly aside from that blasted front bolt that secures the battery in place, the space is so small and I didn’t have the right tools so I fumbled around with that for like 20 mins until I finally dropped the bolt under the battery compartment in the trunk. I thought that was going to be a huge pain getting but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I had to take out the carpet piece that holds the owners manual which gave a nice little opening to secure the final bolt.
All electronics work fine, memory wasn’t reset, the only thing that works iffy right now is my trunk latch (it works on fob but won’t work when I push button on back of trunk)

Ahaha, I opened this thread specifically to see if anyone mentions this bolt. That was the most frustrating thing ever. Took me 30-40 minutes of pure frustration and a weird wrench, and dim lighting to get that thing secured. I didn’t think of the carpet removal, noted.
I hated that thing.

Took the car for a 30 minute drive. Everything electronic works fine except for the button on the trunk (the key fob and button in car work fine to open the trunk)

I recently changed my battery as well and had the same issue with the outside trunk release. There is a setting in the configuration related to independent unlocking of the trunk. Toggle that setting to see if it resolves your issue. FYI, in my case the issue was actually the rubber switch cover had been pushed too hard by someone, impeding the switch mechanism. I gently pulled off the switch cover and reseated it properly and it works perfectly now.

I have no idea what that setting does. My internal and external buttons work, but the ones on the keys don’t.

you dont need any special tools, its just that the battery box/tray hold down doesnt have much room for working for obvious reasons, since its under the carpet in the trunk and theres one 10/12mm nut (cant remember the size) and if you accidentally drop it when retightening down then theres little room for your fingers to pull it out easily so youll be fiddleing with trying to find it.
Open up your trunk and remove the top carpet which just pulls up and you’ll see battery and the little storage box which usually houses the owners manuals/maserati accessory tool kit, You can also just pull out that storage box for alittle extra room is what he’s is describing.
he just means you need a wrench and socket with a longer extension so you arent playing tetris with the bolt. the battery removal/reinstall for this car is like a 1/10 in terms of difficulty shouldnt take you more then 10 mins. You just unclamp the plastic neg terminal and pull off the line and then unbolt the connections for the positive which have a few bolts/nuts connected to the fusebox link and it also slides/snaps off, which are again easily accessible and then the final tie down bolt on the battery tray that just has minimum clearence. Just make sure you leave a car door open before you start (so you dont accidently lock yourself out of the trunk once the battery has been removed incase the trunk gets closed for whatever reason prior to new battery install) underneath the driver side rear passenger seat is the manual trunk release so you can open the trunk without the electronics working.
