Can not find a way to disable Engine’s Auto Stop/Start function. It is enabled even when Sport mode is selected. Disappointing!
Also, there is no option to turn off steering vibration from within lane change assist menu. It only allows Low/Medium/High vibration settings and no option to turn it off.
Please prove me wrong — it will make me happy!

BMW changed the update logic in the LCI such that to reprogram almost all of the modules requires interaction with their home servers, so tools like BimmerCode are now limited to only a few, mostly display functions. IOW, they’ve locked most of the code. Until someone figures out a workaround, what you want may not be possible. I think you can turn all of the assisted driving functions off, but you may not want to disable all of them. From a personal experience, the vast majority of the lane keeping assist warnings come when you don’t signal a lane change (which is the law most places). Yes, I know many people ignore that.

The steering wheel vibration is not as annoying as the auto stop/start function. Lack of permanent manual shift with the new gear knob is another annoyance .

I believe that ASS is integral to BMW’s CAFE claim and thus mandated and resistant to interference. If it is integral to emissions control measures then interference is a violation of EPA law.

As an aside. I lived in Germany for a bit back in the 80’s. My boss, driving a German car with German plates (leased) was out one weekend and drove around a curve in the road. What’s fairly common is to cut those curves a little short. That’s basically illegal most places, but the Germans take it quite seriously. In that curve, he touched the center line twice, and ended up with two moving violations. They really expect you to be under full control of your vehicle at all times, and staying in lane is part of that. That might help with the mindset of how and why some of the driver assistance logic works in a BMW. The only time you should ever cross a line in the roadway is when you have signaled first. If you do that, the steering won’t try to bring you back into the middle of the lane.

So a driver is out of control if his wheels dare to touch a center line? Get real, that is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been driving since the 70s, could care less what Germans do, and have likely touched or crossed these almighty center lines 50,000 times probably more and never had a problem, accidents, citations, or otherwise. Total nonsense.

My ’24 M60i seems to not shut down in Sport/Plus but does in Comfort or Eco.
It is barely perceptable most of the time likely from the mild hybrid electric motor in the transmission. BMW seems to have done a very fine job refining this feature.

Thanks for your feedback — and yes, it is true that engine auto Stop/Start feature has been rfined — but yet you feel the car jerks a little when the engine starts back again.
The other thing I have not figured out is how to put the transmission in manual only mode, with the old shift knob, we still had that option.
Kind of disappointed learning about the missing functions moving to new i-drive!

Vehicle manufacturers look at CAFE (corporate average fuel economy). Changing something officially could mean that they’d be liable for some significant fees to the government if they defeated something that made the vehicle less efficient.

My Cayenne also has a defeat switch or running in sport mode also defeats it.

It really isn’t any kind of a deal breaker on the M60i as they have done a good job of integrating it. There should be a switch to turn it off altogether. Fortunately there is almost never a traffic jam where we live here in SW FL so there is not that much on/off engine nonsense.

Yeah, Sarasota is a real mess as traffic goes. We are about 100 miles south in Bonita Springs(north Naples). Pretty laid back and a great place to live but priced accordingly.

You can cancel ASS by switching to «Sport».
If you don’t like Sport, you can create a Sport «Individual» program that mimics the «Comfort» mode, but disables ASS.
I like the Sport settings but the «Sport» trans setting shifts too harsh, downshifts too soon, and are upshifts are too delayed for me.

What you said is what I was told by the dealer when I picked up my car three weeks ago — but it did not work for me!
ASS does not turn off if you choose comfort settings for Engine and Transmission in the SI setting. I am pretty sure that was the case — and I will try again later today to confirm. I have been driving in sport mode most of the time.

Looks like you’ve got the iDrive8 like TTB said.
I’ve got iDrive 7 and it lets me set everything to «Comfort» in «sport individual» and still cancels ASS.
At least «sport» still does the same for you.

I have found in my new 24 X5 LCI if I disable the traction control, but leave the DSC on, the ASS is deactivated. Press the DSC switch on the center panel where the drive selector is and up on the screen are several choices. That button shows 3 choices. Everything on which is the default, turn traction control off or turn DSC off. I select only traction control off. This feature is used when trying to get out of mud or snow it will allow the wheel to spin. Normally traction control is on and will not let the wheel spin if the car isn’t moving. It’s how cars used to be, you know squealing the tires when leaving the high school parking lot. DSC I always leave on as that will help prevent you from losing control from black ice or hydroplaning. The skid pad at the PCD was a great example of how well it works.
