This is a 2014 2.5 premium. Anyone know of a quick way to reset tpms? I’m afraid there is something wrong With the entire system.

The tpms light came on even though my tires are correctly inflated. 32 front and 30 rear psi, but my TPMS light won’t turn off even after two twenty minute drives at 50mph. I thought they only trip at 26psi??

I wonder if they tripped because I am at 9000 feet? Plus I just drove through an incredible hailstorm where the temp dropped by 30F degrees and had to drive through some puddles several inches deep. I checked pressure as soon as lights came on, still normal.

This is a steady light, there is no blinking.

I’m on family vacation right now deep in colorado ski country. But of course there is a subby dealer ten miles from here. But I don’t want to spend a single minute of my vacation waiting for service.

Where you drove shouldn’t make any difference as the sensors are inside the wheels. A good tire store, such as Les Schwub, should be able to check the TPMS system for you.

Here in Colorado Discount Tire would do that for you, but there is no need. It will turn off in the next 100 miles I bet Nothing to worry about. You checked the pressure, it’s good.

FYI I drove up to Discount tire at 8 am asking if they could reprogram my TPMS for my summer tires. I pulled the car in to the bay, stood there while the technician read each sensor and then reprogrammed the computer. Out in less than 10 minutes.

Check the spare. (I guess, subaru has a TPMS in there).

The car has the emergency «donut» spare; it doesn’t have a sensor. Also the Subaru TPMS (maybe others) can «register» only four sensors. Each sensor is identified as to location (when it was registered). This enable the Subaru Select Monitor to indicate which wheel sensor is signalling a low pressure. (This doesn’t work, however, if the wheels are rotated and the registration isn’t redone.)

Since you know the tires are properly inflated, put black tape over the light and enjoy your vacation. Have it looked at after you get home. Somehow we managed to survive for decades without TPMS.

Thanks folks. I was wondering about the spare so good to know. I’ll just get it checked out after vacation since I know the inflation is good on all my tires.

I wonder if I have to go to the dealer for this to be under warranty, I only have 500 miles on car. I live 40 minutes from the dealer but across the streets from a very reputable full service tire store where I am a frequent customer. I know about the magnuson moss act but wonder if SOA will say it was unnecessary or some other lame excuse.

It’s probably something as simple as one of the tpms units in one of the wheels has failed. They are electrical, with a battery in it. Usually when something like that fails, it’s going to be very shortly after you buy it.

My TPMS sensor went on with 600 miles on a new 2014 Limited, also the keyless entry did not work. It was the computer that received the signal from the tmps and fob. Had to be replaced under warranty. Take to dealer and have a diagnostic run.
Hope you solve this soon.

In this case I’d take it to a Subaru dealer and have them repair it under warranty. From what you said there’s no reason you can’t wait until you get home. Of course, only Subaru dealers honor the Subaru factory warranty.

If you haven’t already. Try over inflating the tires by about 5 psi and see what happens.

^ what he said. I have two tire gauges that read low, I need to bump the psi another4lbs using those to actually get the pressure up enough to kick the TPMS off.

Thanks for everyone’s feedback!

I am now home from vacation so I took it to the dealer. They said that the system was working perfectly fine, BUT that my PSI is SUPPOSED TO BE 38psi for all four tires and that it was triggered BECAUSE I had 32/30psi on the tires. The dealer put my tires to 38psi all around and now the light has turned itself off.

BUT I said that’s ridiculous, the door sticker says it should be 32/30psi so it should not light up at that pressure.

No, says the dealer, my TPMS trigger threshold is 32psi for the two front sensors and 30psi for the two rear sensors. I asked him to change the trigger threshold to 26psi all around. He said this cannot be changed. Then I said this will become a problem if I rotate my tires because the front/rear are supposed to be different. He insists it’s not a problem because «your tires are supposed to be 38psi anyway.»

Co svítí servisní airbag?

I started arguing about this a little bit, why does the door and manual say 32/30psi if the tires are all supposed to be 38psi. He said «all the shops and dealers in this area do this, it is supposed to be 38psi no matter what Subaru you drive, no matter what the sticker or manual says.»

This is just a weird answer to me. I sent an email to Subaru USA about it.

PS: I know that over-inflating tires by a little bit is a common practice to get better gas millage and tread wear. On that point 38psi is not a problem. However I am just not happy with the dealer’s answers and resolution.
