Few weeks back I noticed when I drove in the rain my gages and car would stutter and stumble/almost turn off
So I changed the alt. ( with a used one from my previous working neon that had other issues ) well today it did it once and its not raining/ wet :8O:
My positive battery terminal is scorching hot, the battery is 1 yr. old. Its not buldging what so ever.
Negative terminal is cold .

Check out the positive battery terminal for looseness or corrosion on the post/inside of the terminal. Also check for broken strands at the connector or loose/corroded connection at the PDC

Sounds like a loose connection on one of the positive wires. A loose or bad connection will cause it to heat up, but it will usually only get hot where the connection is bad/loose.

Check your NEGATIVE battery cables. When you have a poor ground (especially at the battery/ground cables) your positive side has to work alot harder to pull current through, thus creating lots of heat at the post.

Yup check ground wires for sure. Is it hot all the time or just when running? If just running then check grounds for sure.

A hot post can only be caused by the product of current times resistance right at that connection. The same current must return to the battery through the negative post, which is not hot, so I think, like 98Neonsedan said, the problem is at the positive post. Bad clamp connection, cable corroded down to a few strands, or post broken inside batt.
