My key fob distance when locking the car seems to have really dropped recently. I changed the battery (twice) without any improvement. I also tried my other key fob, and it performs the same (must be just a few feet from the car to lock). The unlock distance seems to be a bit better than the lock distance, but I’m still trying to verify.
I know all of this is somewhat subjective — but the distance really seems to have dropped by 50%.

Hold the key fob against you head when you activate it for greater distance. It really works! BTW ,have you tried the second key fob?

In all seriousness, I have this problem happen in crowded garages with lots of possible blocks to your car with the concrete walls and other cars or if I have my phone near the key.

Check your car battery voltage if it’s healthy. You changed remote battery twice. Are the batteries new? Check the voltage of those as well and ensure it’s a name brand. There’s 5 sensors around the car for the remote, yet different directions, might be able to isolate a bad sensor. Last resort, pull the negative terminal from the battery for 15min. It’ll reset sensors.

I’m actually having the same issue. I noticed in a wide open parking lot with few cars, I have to be 25 feet or closer to the vehicle to get it to lock/unlock/remote start. It’s definitely not the car battery but I’m wondering if it’s any of the sensors in the car.
Help us Alfa, you’re our only hope!

I did try both fobs, with new duracell 2032 batteries in each. In all I tried 3 duracell batteries, with no noticeable change. I replaced my car battery about a year ago. Curiously — I installed replacement script puddle lights as my previous lights were losing brightness. That’s the only recent change — but I can’t imagine there is a relationship. I will try to put in the prior puddle lights (I think I kept them) to see if there’s a difference.
It’s just curious that the fob distance has changed recently.

Yes, my vehicle has remote start (from the key fob). I didn’t think to see if that also has reduced distance.
WRT the car battery — I replaced the battery with an Interstate AGM less than a year ago. I’ve never had to put a charger on it, I can go to the auto store and have them run a battery test to see.
Unlike Italiandream2021, my distance for the remote to work is about 5 feet, not 25. It’s significantly reduced from what I’ve experienced since I bought the vehicle in 2018.
Unfortunately, I don’t seem to have kept the prior puddle lights to do a test to see if the replacement lights could somehow be a factor (as another user suggested).

make sure you have no other keyfobs etc in your pocket that could interfere with the signal. Also check the centre storage bin (between the front seats) for blocking metal objects etc, that’s where the front receiver/antenna is .

I’ve change the battery twice in both fobs and I have used both fobs. They both do the same thing. The dealer said there is nothing wrong with my car. I highly doubt that.

@JB ALFA does this happen only in one location or in different places? if only at one place fobs don’t work properly could be something in surrounding interferring with fob signal.

I’ve noticed interference from my cellphone when big devices are in the same pocket, even if pants material isn’t jeans. I’ve stood in from of the driver door, with that pocket further away from the vehicle, car won’t lock/unlock until I shift that pocket closer to the vehicle. BTW, I have a foldable phone, both items fit comfortably in the same pocket

It happens in all locations. I have a 2019 alpha and never had one problem now with my 2022. I’ve been having this problem for a year now.

Just some personal observations of my car.
the panic alarm works from some incredible distance from the car, thru the house, from the back yard, it’s a super remote.
the remote start works from a nice intermediate distance.
the lock button requires me to walk back to within 10-15 yard of my car to get it to work. (don’t really use the unlock button, as I just open the door)
Now I’m getting the low battery warning on the dash for my daily fob, the panic button still works from the house, but it seems I have to be within two meters for the lock function to work, and practically put my hip against the door, to use the little button on the handle. but I know the battery is low, and I’ll change it soon.

I had this issue for quite a while. Dealer only replaces the batteries that’s all.
It can’t be the battery, since remote starting works from inside the house, so the distance is there, which shows that the battery is OK.
Remote does not work properly at the rear of the car, but if I use the remote next to the rear side doors, it works very well.
MES shows some RF error though.
Recently I have been in an accident(rear ended), body shop replaced the bumper antenna.
It worked for like two weeks (at the rear of the car), now it does not work again. But works great at the rear side doors. There are antennas in the two side rear doors.
Body shop replaced the remote batteries as well.
This «bad» antenna(from the accident) caused another issue, I couldn’t lock the rear hatch from the close/lock button either. It would only close the hatch, but it wouldn’t lock the car.
Luckily that feature still works.

Unfortunately this is not the case. I have always locked/unlocked from inside my garage and in the parking lot at work (where I park far away from other cars) and its behavior is what has brought this to my attention.
My Key FOB doesn’t appear to have a removable panel to remove the battery. Plus, the owner’s manual (for an ’06) only addresses a Comfort Access battery change option. And, according to the manual it’s supposed to be charged when it’s in the car.
