I know this isn’t a challenger post, but my girl had a 18 charger v6. We noticed an electrical type buzzing sound coming from left side of engine bay. On to off around every 10- 30 seconds. Even an hour later with no key fob in sight out distance. Not even a cell phone. Any ideas

By any chance, is the noise only heard if the car chassis is wet (i.e. just came from a car wash, rain, snow. )?

Just washed it then we heard it when we moved the car.

This is a tough game to play w/out actually hearing the noise.
Can you be more specific w/regard to where in the engine bay? Pic would help if you’re not sure about components.

Definitely around the AC compressor. Or right under it.

Yup, same noise as in the thread I posted earlier (actually it was from an original post from @A Guy that had vids of the noise). No one seems to know the cause although I think one member (have to search as I don’t 100% remember) had the uconnect unit replaced and claimed that it went away.

Yeah, same noise as videos in my reply. It’s normal, if not completely agreed upon what the cause is. I detail mine after every wash, and have never heard it, but maybe in a garage with the door closed.

Thanks A Guy! It’s because I copy the post # (I right click on the post number and copy the link) to highlight specific replies (sometimes better than making folks look through pages of responses), although I did give the entire thread early on.
I am kind-of surprised that there is no TSB for this as clearly several people (both challenger and charger owners alike) have complained about the noise. I also wonder if it is limited to automatic trans. equipped vehicles?

EDIT — this is most likely AC pressure valve equalization.
You may want to see if this occurs more/less often after running the AC system.

EDIT — Haven’t heard this in person, so if someone w/this issue could verify that it IS in fact coming from the compressor, we’ll have our culprit (spring rattle when the hi/low sides equalize).

Very well could be.. I had her car today, used my mechanics stethoscope and heard noises from the compressor.. after using defroster.. even sprayed the car again.

Just hard to believe a spring makes that kinda noise. And for that long. I cannot guarantee thats it.. but I would like for someone else to.try also.

The Chevy guys actually experience more of high pitch beep.
One of the guys had his compressor replaced along with the BCM being reprogrammed.

Now the 3.6L and 5.7L engine, use a Denso 10SBH17 A/C compressor and the 6.4L and 6.2L engine, use a Denso 10SRE18 A/C compressor. But in +2015 I believe R134A (Chilton shows it was used on 2014) was switched to R1234yf refrigerant. So same compressors but different refrigerant. Seems like the newer models have this buzzing sound (again I never heard it. but then again I almost never use AC). Wonder if there is a connection. or if the older models suffer from this noise as well?
Anyways if a spring or whatever mechanism is rattling to the point it is audible suggests a resonance is occurring which should have been designed out.
BTW here is another example from the Chevy folks:
«OK so I asked my Chevy dealer today what that buzzing noise is. They told me that it is the AC compressor. The AC compressor on this car is of the variable displacement type that is electrically controlled.
When the Evaporator gets too cold, the compressor displacement is reduced electronically. This is done instead of cycling the AC clutch. The car still has an AC clutch that is disengaged if the AC is off but it is not used for control.
I find it’s most notable with the AC set to cold and the fan speed at minimum. If I increase the fan speed the noise goes away after a few seconds. The noise does fade in and out as you change the fan speed. I believe that the AC control is using PWM control like a FI to adjust the compressor displacement.
As for why the sound continues after turning the car off, they had no comment and I could not get it to do it. My car does do this on occasion but so far I have not figured out any sequence of events to cause it. I would not doubt that just about anything might cause it to stop if it did continue. This might include arming the anti theft system.
Basically they claim it’s normal. Bring it back if it gets louder.
