Why is my car leaking water on the passenger floorboard?

Do you have the time to provide a few details? With nothing to go on, the most common cause of water on the front floor is a clogged A/C condensate drain tube. Look under the hood on the passenger side of the firewall for about a 4″-long rubber hose hanging down. It usually has a 90 degree bend in it. You may have to crawl underneath and look up to see the hose. Squeeze the end of that tube to open it up and see if debris comes out along with the water that was blocked. If nothing comes out, there’s a wire ring on the end that’s slipped onto the plastic spout. Squeeze that ring, then you can slide the hose off. Clear that hose, then check for blockage in the spout. Poke a pencil in the spout to dislodge any debris.

Water can run into the fresh air intake vent under the rear edge of the hood, then fill up the drain pan under the AC evaporator, the same as if it was collecting when running the AC system. The drain hose is still the best suspect.

The next best suspect is the right door was disassembled in the past and the water shield wasn’t reattached correctly. That’s a plastic sheet that’s glued around the perimeter, just under the interior door panel. If there’s a gap in that sheet along the bottom, you’ll see evidence of water on the sill plate after it rains. The carpet will be wet in that area too.

That is always a possibility, but the volume of water would be real low. This is a real common problem on Ford trucks, but the symptoms always revolve around electrical problems associated with their «GEM» module. That’s their equivalent of a Body Computer. Water drips onto that computer when it sneaks in through the leak around the windshield, but the complaints rarely include water on the floor.

For most vehicles as new as yours, the windshield is considered a structural element that adds strength to the roof. As such, special attention is paid to the integrity of the glue seal. There’s no longer a rubber gasket that can dry-rot and shrink or develop cracks that let water in. That glue bond is real hard to break, so the most logical way it could leak is if the windshield was replaced previously, and it wasn’t sealed properly.
