Doesn�t seem like a feature worth retrofitting honestly. I�ve had it on other vehicles and it always came off as a silly feature, considering most folks use insulated containers for most beverages as is, but I guess to each us own

the heated/cooled cupholders work really, really well. especially on a long road trip. its too bad they took this option away. hopefully it comes back in a few years.

I think they intended this feature specifically for road trips/commutes where people get drinks from the drive thru. But I agree, it does nothing if your cups are already insulated. But I rarely drink, much less ever eat, in my car so I appreciate having the purely luxury feature on the rare circumstance I do get a drink on the way to somewhere.

agree. this feature has only been useful to me on long road trips. keeping my water bottle cool. short trips, i do not notice any difference and rarely use it.
as others mentioned. it only works with non-insulated bottles.

to clarify, it’s still an option for EU X5, but it was removed for US X5 since MY21 production. so when you see people talk about it not being an option, they’re talking about the US X5 market. at this time for your market, there’s no need to be concerned of it being removed nor to keep confirming it’s an option. we know it’s still an option in EU

If the volume of the various bits ever recovers, we will likely see these things come back. In the interim, based on volumes and agreements with various markets, BMW has decided where to allocate the available resources. The US probably has the bigger market for the X5’s, and they couldn’t sustain the volume here along with the agreements they may have for others, so they cut it. Same is true with other bits.

What — are Europeans really that soft. (Please, that was rhetorical!). Pretty ironic really, since BMW fought until the very last to put any cup holder in the car. Now (for the Germans at least) it must be hot or cold!

I’d like to think that too. My cynicism though says, the bits are missing now, the cars are cheaper to produce, and customers still buy them. Unless of course the competition starts adding them back (already true in some markets and for some features). Soooo, guarded optimism.
