Nice forum here. I acquired a new-to-me 2011 Golf TDI from my Dad when he recently passed away unexpectedly. He was very fond of this car and now I understand why. It’s great fun to drive and will get a heck of a lot better mileage than my 2006 Ram Cummins 2500 or previous 03 G35 Coupe (M6).
My only problem thus far is making time to read the voluminous manual (i.e. getting past all the warnings to get to actual content) and the fact that my mom let the car sit with something turned on and drained the battery completely. It was «professionally» recharged, but the clock is wrong and I can’t figure out how to set the darn thing. Any advice?

Hi, sorry to hear of your story, glad to hear you’re pleased with it though.
Go to the multifunction display, the MDI. Go to settings, there is a setting in there to change the time. Also, post moved to mk6 section.welcometomyturbodies

If you ever have any questions about your VW, you can take it to any dealer. It’s VW policy that their sales people are supposed to know all the bells and whistles. They don’t change, just add new ones. For example, the trick from the Mk3 where you hold the key in the unlock position to roll the windows down or in the lock position to roll them up is still there, even though the driver’s door key hole is covered on the Mk6.

So without this bereavement would you have considered having a Golf TDI, what did you drive before?
Yes the handbook is crap as virtually every topic there is health & safety warning before you start reading then you don’t find what you want because the index is crap as well.
I don’t know if your father ordered the Multi Function Steering Wheel (MFSW) because they aren’t standard in the UK apart from the GTI/GTD they used to be £430 extra.

another option: hit the button on the lower left of the instrument cluster (tach bezel) to cycle through the hr & min. toggle the up & down on the right side steering wheel pad to adjust the digits.
the mfd setup menu (while stopped) will allow you to toggle the daylight savings option most of us will have to do in a few weeks.

Thanks! I will, since I find the written manual difficult to comprehend due to excessive warnings interrupting the text and instructions that never seem to refer directly to my model of radio/options. I need to go to the dealer just to understand what options this car has. I suspect the manual was written by the software used to create the interface. We’ve done this at my work before and it’s easy for the end document to be usable as a hyper-text-based help document, but not so much as a written document. Oh well, I’m happy with the car that will remind me of my Dad with plenty of fun miles. It seems only fitting since my first car, a ’67 bug was also a great car that I acquired from my Dad went he went on to something else.
