As you know, I own a 2023 Colorado Trail Boss with a Turbo Plus (mid-grade) engine option. This option is no more. What does it mean for these 2023 Colorado owners? Well, you can keep your truck the way it is. All good. You can pay nearly $400 to upgrade your mid-grade power to High Output at the dealership (if the tune is available and if the dealership knows how to do it).
FYI. I tried to get my truck tuned at my dealership, and they said they needed to wait for additional parts to arrive (even thogh this is a software-only change).
If you have a magnifying glass, here are all the 2024 model year changes on one screen. If you don’t please read on as we call out the most noteworthy changes.
The most noteworthy deletions include the ZR2 Desert Boss package (including all of its parts), the base 8-inch gauge cluster screen, and the mid-grade power option.
The 2024 Chevy Colorado can be purchased with a base 2.7L turbocharged I4 engine with 237 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque @ 1,200-4,000 rpm. This is available on the Colorado WT and LT trim levels. The high-output 2.7L engine is now referred to as “TurboMax”. Thank goodness, I am glad we now have an official marketing name for this engine option.
The TurboMax is rated at 310 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and 430 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm (no changes from the 2023 high-output engine rating). the TurboMax is optional on Colorado WT and LT trims. It will be standard on Colorado Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 trims. All versions of the truck retain the 3.42-to-1 rear axle ratio, so the maximum towing of 7,700 lbs should remain the same (when properly equipped).
This 2024 engine option strategy is more simple and straightforward. We do not have 2024 Colorado option pricing at this time.
If you tow trailers with your Colorado, the 2024 model offers an optional Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering. We have not tested this feature yet. We still do not know if cruise control is now a standard feature.

Yes, the ZR2 Bison joins the lineup. It is slated to go on sale this fall. The Bison gets the same TurboMax engine option. The ZR2 Bison edition is a collaboration between General Motors (GM) and American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). It includes many boron-steel skid plates, steel bumpers, high-travel DSSV spool-valve suspension by Multimatic with hydraulic bump stops, and nearly 35-inch tall all-terrain tires.
Chad Hall just completed this year’s grueling Vegas-to-Reno off-road race in a 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison with racing safety modifications. He participates in the stock truck class.
