I have a 2019 Cayenne Turbo — I noticed about 4 months ago that the AC had stopped blowing cold air in the vehicle in all vents. I took it to Porsche and they weren’t initially able to find any leak so they just recharged the AC. It was fine for about 3 months but then again, stopped blowing cold air. Took it back to Porsche and they put some dye in it to see if they could locate a leak. Eventually they came back and said they have to replace the AC evaporator core and that labor cost alone on that would be $10k + parts. They said it is a very complex procedure that requires complete removal of the dashboard which I understand but $10k?! Has anyone else had similar experience?

I am thinking of finding another local mechanic who specializes in European/Porsche cars and seeing what they quote. Would appreciate any advice please, thanks in advance.

Definitely take it somewhere else to get a quote, maybe someone here knows somebody good in your area, where are you? Beyond that I got nothing, sorry.

I’d def find an independent Porsche-only shop , one that has ex-Porsche deanship techs and you can probably cut that cost down by 70%.

Not sure where you are , but in New England : https://repasimotorwerks.com all Porsche of Fairfield ex-techs, they specialize in Porsche GT, 911 air and water-cooled, and work on anything else with some notice to order parts.

Thank you for the responses! Just confirms I am not completely mad then to think $10k is a bit excessive to say the least. It does sound like they don’t want to do it, I can’t imagine either it takes that long and that much effort, especially for the pros. I am in Bay Area, California by the way.

I will keep post updates on this thread on it’s repair if it helps anyone else.

X1000. It’s pure variable labor that they can’t perform for under «book» rates/warranty work. An independent makes their money on labor, a dealership makes money on «quoted» book time/warranty work that they typically do in have the time, throwing marked up parts in as well.

they did the same job you described and so far so good, I was lucky it was 3 months before my warranty expired.
I suggest going to an independent for sure. Good luck!

Was the suv still under warranty when you took it in the first time? It sounds to me like they mis diagnosed the problem the first time. Maybe you can make that argument and get the repair covered?

Thank you, you are right. So let me explain what’s happening behind the scenes incase it helps anyone in future.

I bought the car from Carvana and they have a 100-day warranty which covers AC as well. So when I took it in the first time to Porsche Stevens Creek, they told me they could not see any leak and that it probably just needed a recharge. They recharged it and sent me on my way. This happened within the 100-day warranty from Carvana. Then, 3 months later, it happened again where AC was not blowing cold air so took it back to Porsche and they re-diagnosed it and told me there is a hole in the AC evaporator core. At this time, it was outside of that warranty.

I looked at the warranty with Carvana and chatted with a rep there — so it does not explicitly say in their warranty that you have to had contacted them within the 100 days.

Coverage Term — This portion of the Coverage ends with either of the following, whichever occurs first: (i) 100 days from Vehicle Purchase Date or (ii) when your Vehicle has been driven 4,189 miles measured from the Current Odometer reading (indicated above).

So I am trying to argue with them that I have it documented that the fault occurred within 100 days from Porsche but they aren’t having it. It doesn’t explicitly say or mention that you have to have contacted them within the 100 days plus it was not something that was easy to diagnose. I may show to a contract lawyer to see if I have any case of pursuing it further. If anyone has any thoughts on this, would be greatly appreciated.
