I reset the ecu on my truck by holding the battery cables together for 10 seconds, but now my truck won’t start, any suggestions?

Reset takes more than ten seconds, try ten minutes

Connect your cables together for 10 minutes. 10 seconds is not long enough

I’m trying to figure out why it’s not starting now, I’ve tried doing the key relearn procedure, but the security light stays on, never goes off

OK, back up and tell us what was happening before the no start!

It was idling very high, so I cleaned the throttle body and replaced the idle air control, but it was still idled high, so we tried resetting the ecu thinking maybe it would relearn the idle air control and smooth out the idle.

OK, and then you disconnected the battery and touched the cables together?

OK, before you tried the key relearn, what happened? You reconnect the cables and.
Why did you try the key relearn?
I’m asking, because so far I haven’t seen any reason for a security trip.

It was starting before I touched the cables together, but since then it just turns over, it has gas in it.

Let’s talk about «start» .
Does it crank the engine and just not fire;
Or, does just do nothing except light up the dash bulbs?

The engine turns over, it’s firing, if it does start it shuts off immediately

Were there any little ‘sparkles’ during your reset procedure?

What you did should not have called for a key relearn. I’m thinking you have a coincidence problem here. I do not believe the two are related.
So, when you try to start, the engine will start, but immediately die and the security light is flashing?
If this is the case, the resistance in the key switch area is not delivering the proper resistance to the computer to turn off the passlock system and allow the engine to run. You can do the relearn process which you can find in a Google search, I don’t remember the exact steps. IIRC, you are suppose to do this relearn process 3 times in a row to get the system to remember the resistance reading, in the past, I have has to do the relearn procedure 4 or 5 times in a row to get it to remember. If you are good with a DVOM and a soldering iron, you can permanently disable the passlock system. There are several good wright-ups on how to do that on Google as well.
