Hi all, i hope someone can help me. I tried to remove my headrests today and they just won’t budge. They pull up and one side comes out but the other feels like it’s attached to something in the seat and just won’t come out.
Has anyone else experienced this or am I just being really stupid and not doing something. I have pushed the button in before anyone says that.

Not sure if they do come out as they are, I believe, active headrests.
They are connected to the back of the seat and the headrest will push forward as the seat back is pushed backwards.
I could be totally wrong though

I don’t think they do come out, I have tried before and can only get one side out — it seems there is a cable inside the metal pole in one side. I left mine hanging once to enable me to put a large item in the car.
Oh and don’t mind RjForte, it seems he can’t stop himself from being an idiot. Must be a sad lonely man if he acts like that in real life!Edited by: metis

I wanted to take the headrests off too temporarily.
As stated, they are indeed active ones so a cable pull them forwards in the event of a frontal crash.
Anyway They can be removed if you are an expert Kia seat specialist as the back of the seat needs to come off etc and its one hell of a job acording to a web site I saw in the USA. I must be an idiot because I gave up. Best left alone

I have no intention of taking any notice of RjForte, it’s people like him that ruin forums like this. Maybe he should stay on the American forum instead.
I’d like to thank everyone for there input and help, I have since seen on another forum that they can’t be removed as said by several sensible people.

I didn’t know that’s what was called active headrests. I’ve encountered other cars with the exact same issue. Can be a pain because I’ve wanted the seat right down to get more space for a large item. but the headrest prevents it.

I’ve had exactly the same problem ! I have only tried to remove the front passenger headrest so can’t say if it is the same on all seats. I managed to get one side (outer) completely out but the other side (inner) felt like it was attached to something (possibily rubber ?) inside the seat. Not wanting to damage the seat or headrest I was able let it dangle on the teather and get the overlong item into the vehicle. However, the item wasn’t as safe or as secure as I would have liked if had been supported on top of the seat.
I’ve never had a problem with any other vehicle in the past and I’m certainly pratical and strong enough to remove a headrest ! Perhaps there is some safety requirement for it to be securely teathered but I would have thought the standard clip / push button would have been adequate.
I can only suggest either asking your local dealer or sending an email to Kia Customer Services — generally they are pretty good at responding.
You are certainly NOT stupid and I think our American cousins ought to restrain themeslves to useful comments rather than their opinions on other peoples abilities.
I haven’t really helped but hope it makes you feel better that you’re not the only one that has experienced this problem.
The driver’s and front passenger’s seats are equipped with a headrest for the occupant’s safety and comfort. The headrest not only provides comfort for the driver and front passenger, but also helps to protect the head and neck in the event of a collision.
- For maximum effectiveness in case of an accident, the headrest should be adjusted so the middle of the headrest is at the same height as the center of gravity of an occupant’s head. Generally, the center of gravity of most people’s head is similar with the height of the top of their eyes. Also, adjust the headrest as close to your head as possible. For this reason, the use of a cushion that holds the body away from the seatback is not recommended.
- Do not operate the vehicle with the headrests removed as severe injury to the occupants may occur in the event of an accident. Headrests may provide protection against neck injuries when properly adjusted.
- Do not adjust the headrest position of the driver’s seat while the vehicle is in motion.
When there is no occupant in the rear seats, adjust the height of the headrest to the lowest position. The rear seat headrest can reduce the visibility of the rear area.
Nastavení výšky nahoru a dolů
Chcete-li opěrku hlavy zvednout, vytáhněte ji nahoru do požadované polohy (1).
Odstranění a instalace
Chcete-li odstranit opěrku hlavy:
1. Recline the seatback (2) with the recline lever (1).
2. Raise the headrest as far as it can go.
3. Stiskněte uvolňovací tlačítko opěrky hlavy (3) a současně vytáhněte opěrku hlavy nahoru (4).
NIKDY nedovolte nikomu jezdit na sedadle s odstraněnou opěrkou hlavy.
Chcete-li znovu nainstalovat opěrku hlavy:
1. Vložte tyče opěrky hlavy (2) do otvorů a současně stiskněte uvolňovací tlačítko (1).
2. Recline the seatback (4) with the recline lever (3).
3. Nastavte opěrku hlavy na vhodnou výšku.
Always make sure the headrest locks into position after reinstalling and adjusting it properly.
Nastavení vpřed a vzad
The headrest may be adjusted forward to 4 different positions by pulling the headrest forward to the desired detent. To adjust the headrest to its rearmost position, pull it fully forward to the foremost position and release it. Adjust the headrest so that it properly supports the head and neck.
A gap between the seat and the headrest release button may appear when seating on the seat or when you push or pull the seat. Be careful not to get your finger, etc. caught in the gap.
