My wife has a 2022 Forester Wilderness. We don’t like Apple CarPlay. We’d rather use the built in UI and nav system. The problem is we also want to charge our phones without it defaulting to CarPlay. Disabling CarPlay on our phones doesn’t work because as soon as you plug it in and want to play music off your phone it takes over anyways. On my F150 it’s simple. Sync3 Settings>Apple CarPlay>Disable. For the life of us we can’t find that function on the Subie. Is this even possible? Are we stuck with CarPlay if we plug our phones in USB to charge? Please don’t bother saying use the cigarette lighter to charge with Bluetooth music. We get that work around. The issue is Bluetooth compresses the sound and the quality is better when hardwired. Picky, I know. Cheers.

@Neckbone,
Will one of these USB data blocking adapters help? This will pass only the charging voltage, similar to a simple wall-wart adapter:

That’s not going to work for @Neckbone If you read his original post, he DOES NOT want to lose data. He DOES NOT want to use Bluetooth for his audio. Passing only voltage through is not what he wants. He just wants to find a way to turn OFF Apple Carplay on the head unit because he wants to use to onboard Navigation and onboard UI. This is akin to some of the other users on here that want to continue using USB for their music, or Apple iPOD for music. They want to be able to select everything using the built-in UI. They just don’t want to use Apple Carplay or Android Auto.

That piece listed above will work for you. I know you just want to turn it off but I dont think you can on the Subaru system, in fact on many systems its not something that can be turned off, im kinda surprised you can on your Ford.

I don’t understand. You are not stuck with anything. When I plug in (22 Forester Sport and 20 Legacy) all that happens is the Carplay Icon shows on the screen. It doe not disable or take over anything.

@TampaTom If im understanding correctly OP wants to be able to play music via USB connection while charging and not use carplay as the interface for playing the music. The fix above that lets you turn off carplay I would guess will be his fix

@TampaTom There are a number of vehicle owners out there that are not welcoming with open arms Apple Car Play or Android Auto. They just want to use basic stuff: USB for Music, Apple IPOD for music. They have Absolutely no interest in using anything but the stock vehicle UI, no if ands or buts. Hence, «Please Help me Turn Off Apple Car Play». In this case here the OP wants to use the Onboard Navigate and Onboard Music UI. And that’s it, a very simple request.

You can use the 12V port with a dual USB 2.4A adapter that is in the center console or if you have it, the 2 USB ports in the back of the console. These are charging only ports.

@zcrow, re-read the OP first post. He DOES NOT want charging only ports. Already been suggested twice now. He DOES NOT want to use Bluetooth for his music, but he wants to use the Built-in UI and Built-in Navigation and DOES NOT want to use Apple Car Play.

Right. I didn’t notice that. However, this is confusing and some contradicting stuff going on as well. If you don’t want to use the phone’s nav, doesn’t want to use Bluetooth for music then options are pretty much eliminated. However, if you want to play music that is on the Music app on the phone, you need to use CarPlay or use Bluetooth. You cannot directly access the music files stored on the phone. With Bluetooth you don’t plug the phone into the ports in the phone cubby below the head unit. But to keep the phone charged, use some other USB port for that. As soon as you plug the phone into those 2 ports under the head unit AND you want to play music, then you need to use AirPlay as the interface for the Music app. Otherwise, just use a USB stick with music on it if you want to use the built in UI of the head unit.
